Manifesto

We are the curious. We open the case, read the source, trace the signal. We take things apart to learn how they work, put them back together better, and write down what we found so the next one does not start from zero.

We judge an idea by how well it holds up: by what it explains, what it predicts, what it builds. Not by the name, the title or the side of whoever says it.

Knowledge grows when it is shared. Questions are welcome here, and so is being wrong in public; arrogance is not, and neither is cruelty.

We stand in the middle. On one side, those who would block, filter and silence everything. On the other, those who would use any open door to hurt people. We keep this door open for honest debate about computer science, and closed to crime and to politics.

We cooperate with the law where we must, and we defend in full the right to read, to ask and to speak about how things work.

This is a place to learn, to build, to break and to explain. Come in.

The hacker manifesto that inspired generations is The Mentor's The Conscience of a Hacker, Phrack 7, 1986.
